Measuring the Depth of a Trance
To measure the depth of a trance, we use the Davis-Husband Scale of Hypnotic Suggestibility.
Shallow Hypnosis
(Does not require the subject to be in a trance state). You are simply using commands, psychology and body language.
1- Relaxation
Hypnoidal Phase
2- fluttering of the eyes
3- closing of the eyes
4- complete physical relaxation
5- Eye catalepsies
*catalepsy: affects the feelings and sensations in a body part
Lignt Trance
6- Limb Catalepsies
7- Rigid Catalepsies
8,9,10- glove anesthesia
11,12- partial Posthypnotic amnesia
Medium Trance
13,14- full Posthypnotic amnesia
15,16- personality changes
17,18,19- kinesthetic delusions
Somnambulism *you can open your eyes without affecting the trance*
20,21,22- Partial somnambulism
23,24- Complete somnambulism
25- postivite visual hallucinations
26- positive auditory hallucinations
27- systematized amnesias
28- negative auditory hallucinations
29- negative visual hallucinations
30- Hyperesthesia (complete sensitivity)
Thus, the five major states are shallow hypnosis, hypnoidal phase, light trance, medium trance and deep trance (somnambulism).
Shallow hypnosis falls into the realm of psychologists, social gurus, dictators, and entrepreneurs.
Medium trance falls into the realm of hypnotherapy, and autohypnosis.
